With “Driven,” Précipité announces the album State Police LP
Updated: Sep 24

Précipité, a project by multi-instrumentalist François Clos, backed notably by Maxime Legrand and Stan Delanoy on drums, releases “Driven,” the first single from the album State Police LP, set to be released on November 13. This highly political album’s first single reflects on what the composer himself calls “capitalist gaslighting, exploring the fascination that moving objects can evoke. Just as light captures the attention of animals, so too do mechanical objects captivate humans with their mesmerizing mechanisms.”
A marimba reworking of the track “Conduit,” featured on the album Naufrages (2022), “Driven” stands out as the centerpiece of the upcoming album, which François Clos has built around this new sound. The deceptively ethereal pop atmosphere with which the track opens gradually gives way to the hypnotic refrain “I am driven by the machine that I’m driving” and screeching guitars, before, driven by the brass section, the drum duo propels the track to its climax, all presented in a music video where it’s hard to find your bearings, much like the aforementioned driver who is both responsible for and powerless to control what, no matter what he does, eludes him. “Précipité” thus fits into a form of instrumental fusion that the ’90s had previously explored, capturing the unique feeling and energy of a generation bound and adrift in the midst of a shipwreck. Can’t wait for the album!
