High on the low brow (Datura 4)

When it comes to psychedelic rock, there are imitators and heirs: the members of Datura 4, an Australian supergroup, fall into the latter category. With High on the Low Brow, they deliver an album of great sonic maturity, summoning the spirits of the desert in their trippy stoner rock, boogie, and even jazz when the mood strikes, with heavy use of organ and saxophone, for nearly 45 minutes of auditory pleasure, without ever resorting to the predictable, imitation, or the easy way out. This is a truly beautiful rock album, redolent of live jam sessions, sweat, and beer, somewhere between saints and sinners.
